Fruit & Oatmeal Smoothie

photo 2Good morning to you! Did you watch the Super Bowl last night?

If I have somehow not told you before… I am a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, 100%. I grew up in a Steelers household, and when I started interning with the team in 2009… my love went through the roof.

However….I have family that live right outside of Baltimore- so you can understand the intense [all in good fun] rivalry that runs from August through February.

This season, and especially this morning, I was extra… bitter… so to speak. Ugh..fine. Congrats on your win. There, I said it. My good deed for the day has been done.

Anyway, I think that Steeler Nation [ or just me]  is feeling the burn today. We need a healthy little kick start to the day to remind us that we will get there next year. Superbowl 48, you know?

This smoothie packs an extra punch from the added oatmeal, and it will keep you feeling full long into the late morning hours of the day. A little sour from the Ravens win  raspberries, and extra sweet from the juicy pineapple — just what I need today.

Fruit & Oatmeal Smoothie

[Makes two medium sized servings]

You will need:

  • About 2 cups of fruit of your choice- I used fresh pineapple, frozen raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries.
  • 1/2 cup cooked oatmeal [1/4 cup dry]
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 heaping tablespoons of greek yogurt + a little extra for topping
  • sweetener of choice

Cook oatmeal as you normally would, or let the oats soak in some water for 10-15 minutes allowing them to soften. Blend fruit with milk and greek yogurt. Adjust taste with sweetener of your choice [ honey, agave, sugar, Splenda, etc] Add the cooked oatmeal and blend well until you reach the consistency that you like.

The oats bulk up the smoothie, and this is an easy way to get extra fiber into your diet. Swirl a little extra yogurt on top because its pretty and fancy. That is reason enough, right? Try it out!
